Physical security

Security should not be a barrier to good business! Physical security is tangible but can be intrusive and limiting to business operations.  It is therefore critical that any physical security program is matched to an organisation’s risk profile and directed through a holistic security strategy.

To keep a lid on physical security costs it is important to plan its deployment.  Unlike ICT and personnel security programs, physical security has very limited portability if the organisation is undergoing change.  It is often the case that organisations that don’t have a sound plan for their physical security programs end up with:

  • higher costs as they are paying for unnecessary physical security services;
  • unknown or undetected gaps in their physical security perimeters; and
  • higher levels of redundant physical security equipment as their organisations undergo planned changes.

stratsec enables clients to maximise the return on their physical security investments by linking physical security capability needs through a strategic approach that is aligned with the business objectives and future plans of the organisation.  The stratsec approach guides an organisation through consideration of three important aspects for delivery of any physical security capability:

  • Governance. Establishing the strategic direction and alignment, understanding risk, and defining policies, procedures, standards, and roles and responsibilities for physical security.
  • Assurance. Providing assurance that the physical security capabilities in the business environment continue to be effective in meeting the business need, are free from vulnerabilities, and are implemented in accordance with established policies and standards.
  • Capability. Designing, deploying and operating physical security solutions appropriate for the risk profile of the organisation that are compliant with the defined standards, whilst implementing and maintaining established policies, standards and procedures.
Through this strategic approach clients can then develop detailed requirements specifications and acquisition documentation to procure or implement physical security services aligned with their business objectives and unique operational environment.
