The Merger of stratsec & SIFT

In May 2009, stratsec merged with SIFT to form the leading security consulting, risk management and testing company in the Australasian and SE-Asian region.

Founded in 2000, SIFT was a leading Australian information security consulting, intelligence and training firm. As Sydney's largest infosec company, they specialised in the delivery of independent advice, reviews and recommendations to the senior management of large, highly-regulated organisations.

Outside of the delivery of expert advice to their key commercial and government clients, their consultants and associates were actively involved in working groups, interest groups, policy support and standards development bodies in information security and privacy, at the State, National, and International level. SIFT had built long-term relationships with major clients and information security stakeholders in both the public and private sectors, providing exceptional customer focus throughout their business units.

The union between stratsec and SIFT (to be known as 'stratsec'), effective as of 1 May 2009, positioned the new company as the largest independent and specialist provider of information security services to government and commercial clients in the Australasian and SE-Asian region.

The information security services market in Australia has historically been very fragmented. The merger of stratsec and SIFT brought together two leading firms to create a very clear market leader and a trusted partner for Australian businesses and government.

The SIFT team was led by CEO Nick Ellsmore (now stratsec CTO), who is very highly regarded in the industry as an industry professional and commentator. From the outset, the attraction to merge with another like-minded company with complimentary skills sets, capability and experience was strong. The union provided a logical cultural and client fit and a solid platform to pursue opportunities and engagements that might not have been feasible or possible previously.

With now close to 50 information security specialists, with many being leaders in their field, spread across the country in key locations servicing key clients, stratsec is going from strength-to-strength.
